Delay is an audio effect that gives an echo, similar to what you hear in canyons or sometimes in shower room that can be repeated.  Modern delays can be manipulated in various ways including the timing, number of repeats and "decay"..basically the dying out of the echo.  Delays can be digital where the sound is reproduced digitally or analog, where the sound is stored on a medium, such as a tape, to be played back.
